When the 3-mile mark passed, sort of groaned a little. I’ve been sticking close to that the last couple of weeks, and it’s a comfortable distance. Then the 4-mile mark passed too, and I thought I could’ve been done now! See, I wasn’t feeling too hot this morning, so I opted to keep the pace lower: 4.5 mph. But that’s not a particularly challenging pace, so I thought I’d go for 4 miles. Then my brain, which is clearly trying to kill me, thought meh, I’ll just do the full hour. The same brain was making it harder, too, by calculating the percentage of completion.
So there you have it.
On the other hand, I used to think people who ran for an hour had some stellar endurance — weirdly this only occurs to me in the gym on the treadmill and not while I’m out running outside.
